Russia Denied More Music Because of Pro-Gay Stance?

First it was Madonna and Lady GaGa, and now it is pop star Selena Gomez that was denied a Visa into Russia to perform two concerts on her “Stars Dance” Tour.

If I was in Russia, I would personally be aggravated if any of these pop stars were to be denied access to Russia and be forced to cancel their shows.

“Before Gomez’s camp confirmed the show cancellations, author and gay-rights activist John Becker started a petition on, urging the singer to speak out for gay rights in Russia. “I am writing today to ask Selena Gomez to stand on stage and speak out for Russia’s LGBT community during her upcoming trip to Moscow and St. Petersburg.” At press time, more than 12,000 had signed the petition.”

As far as I am concerned, Gomez did not start/sign this petition, confirming her stance on gay rights at this time. I believe she previously did voice her support for gay rights. Nonetheless, her beliefs or assumed beliefs got her shows cancelled in Mother Russia.

Once anti-gay laws start cracking down to where celebrities and musicians are denied access to a country for believing in gay rights, you know there is something wrong.

This is what Lady GaGa said in response to being denied: “Sending bravery to LGBTs in Russia. The rise in government abuse is archaic,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “Hosing teenagers with pepper spray? Beatings? Mother Russia? The Russian government is criminal. Oppression will be met with revolution. Russian LGBTs you are not alone. We will fight for your freedom. Why didn’t you arrest me when you had the chance, Russia? Because you didn’t want to answer to the world?”

Honestly, Russia has too many other pressing issues going on *cough cough Syria* that I wouldn’t be concerned with gay rights and gay people.

If dudes want to love dudes, let them do that. Doesn’t this world need more love?

The more the merrier I say!

Sorry Selena, maybe next time.
